Adoption

Adoption Lawyer in Daphne, Alabama

Relative or Stepparent Adoptions ◊ Contested or Consent Adoptions

If you are considering or planning on filing for adoption, you want an attorney who understands the law and the process, one who has successfully helped others in adoption proceedings. You don't want to discover years after the fact that you didn't comply with all the applicable laws.

At the law office of Furman & Furman, LLP, we bring over 25 years of experience to individuals and families involved in the adoption process. We built our practice on a commitment to personal service and attention, working hard to be available when you need to talk with us. We answer our own phones, and strive to respond to all calls or e-mails within 12-24 hours.

We offer a free initial consultation to all clients. Contact our office online or call us at 251-517-0972 or toll-free at 888-503-6895 to set up an appointment.

Our Adoption Practice

We work with adoptive parents and birth parents in Alabama, Georgia and Florida, handling all matters related to:

  • Agency or state welfare adoptions. We work with agencies, including Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida, and Bethany Services, by facilitating the adoption of unrelated children.
  • Stepparent or family adoptions. We handle adoptions involving stepparents or other family members, so that children can stay with their birth family.
  • Adoption by consent or contested adoptions. We take cases where all parties agree to an adoption, as well as situations where a biological parent objects to the placement of a child for adoption. This includes cases where the birth father is either unknown or cannot be located.

We are also intimately familiar with the Interstate Compact for the Placement of Children (ICPC), in place in all states. The ICPC governs adoptions where the child is born or resides in one state and the adopting parents reside in another. We will help you properly prepare your case, so that your inter-state adoption will be approved by the ICPC committee, and you can safely take your child home with you.

We also assist you with all other details stemming from an adoption, including:

  • Preparing for the home study — information gathered and used by adoption agencies to determine your suitability as adoptive parents
  • Determining if potential problems may arise during a criminal background check
  • Filing for or securing tax credits or employer reimbursement credits for adoption
